With the uprising in newborn pictures and the creativity with them, it's improtant that we keep these children safe. We are not just putting these babies in swings, baskets, etc without having mommy, daddy or another spotter helping. Photoshop is a wonderful tool we use to achieve these cool affects that look like they are hanging from a branch, hands under chin and holding themselves up. They are not! I would like to challenge other photographers to also post how they keep there babies safe aswell! For new and upcoming photographers they don't see the "behind the scene's". We all need to be aware and parents if your photographer ever does something to question the safety of your child I beg you to speak up!
Here are some cool B&A
Between the holidays, and illnesses I am slap wore out! But I really wanted to be apart of this Blog 12 challenge.. For January as always I have so many resolutions, and like most they are not kept! Weather good intentions or not, life is hard and things get in the way! But there is something I am wanting to "resolve"... Learning how to use textures on B&W images! Colored images I find much easier, but black and white?? I don't know why I find them difficult, but to me they never turn out right!! So here is my attempt at a B&W image of my precious son Jason taking after his mothers heart!!! Taking pictures with his camera he got for Christmas... What i used was MCP take the color out, Flora Bella texture action with the texture gesso from Jessica Drossin textures.. I put it on Hard Light at 100% and erased with brush on 50% opacity on the skin. Then dropping the opacity of the brush to go over what was left of the texture at 25%..Next step was running the Flora Bella texture part 2.. I used the sweet sun at 30%, Vignette at 100%, and boosted the rich boost at 33% and towned down the contrast at 15%. Then added the sharpening at 35%. This is what I got after adding my water mark and using PURE presitation for blogs.
I hope to get next months challenge done alot sooner! But would appreciate any suggestions or feedback. Thanks!

I have a fun couple who had graciously agreed to be my models for an upcoming shoot. I was in need of having more to offer my clients and wanted to show the unique things I am able to do for them! No matter what session you are having they can be FUN!! So Nick and Brittany were going to pose as an engaged couple! For me to later learn Mr. Nick was in the process of paying her engagement ring off and later asked if we could make it a real one and I get to capture it all on my camera!!! YAY!! Boy the look on Brittany's face when he really pulled a ring out!! PRICELESS!! YES this was taken in a local library with there permission of corse. Here were some of the images of that session. Please stop by and check out my Facebook page Mary Gibson Photography Images to view all the images from the photo shoot! Thank you!
With an AMAZING wedding!! My Dear friend Sarah and I were given the opportunity to photography the Dickenson/Jones wedding and it was a challange for the both of us, but at the same time fun and what a great feeling of accomplishment for us both! Here were a few beautiful images from there day!

These were some of my favorite B&W images from the wedding! Sometimes color is not needed to make a bold statement. Classic and timeless!

But the color ones add that extra umph that takes the images over the top! What a difference they can make! Thanks again Adam and Krissy! Wishing you the best for years to come!
I was able to take my kiddos swimming today along with a very dear, sweet friend of mine and her kids/grandkids. It was fun heading out to the lake. Seems like it has been forever since the last time I was there. But now we are back home and after hours in the hot sun and then home for baths I was feeling really tired and it was only 4pm. Knowing I was not going to be able to take a nap I was needing my quick fix! To the coffee pot I go! I don't know how you feel about coffee, but I am in LOVE with COFFEE

As you can see we have a VERY good relationship! Also look at my new cute as a button coffee mug/ spoon holder! The same dear, sweet friend who we went to the lake with gave this to me! How kind was that and talk about perfect! I am Happy with my coffee in my hand :) Thank you Tammy for a wonderful day and cup! You are a great friend!
Thanks to mommy and daddy for letting me have her for a couple of hours to do so! Little miss Dixie was born early monday morning weighing in at 7lbs 5oz and 19 inches long. Along with some great pictures of a princess I got to hold, love and snuggle with her. I am telling you there is NOTHING better than holding a baby! Here are some shots from our session.
I was having such a hard time using the one I had in PSE6 so I decided to make my own and turn it into a brush! Here it is

I have to say I am quite proud and after lots of googling I remembered that the CoffeeShopBlogger...Rita had a post on making your own! So a big THANK-YOU and SHOUT-OUT to her!!
It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, and it isn't super fancy, but I LOVE it!!
Here it is on a photo..
While I was there a few weeks ago I just took some random pictures of nature in it's finest form. After looking threw my pictures I decided to edit 2 different pictures the same way and see how they turn out. The first one was of her lovely new blooming apple trees!
BEFORE

AFTER

Then I chose the picture of a flower beginning to bloom.
I didn't know him or his family, but I just had the feeling this was something I needed to do. The only thing I knew is he was a very young man in his thirties that had stage 3 lung cancer and never smoked a day in his life. He was also married with small children he would be leaving behind. So with my trusty Canon Rebel I went off not sure if I was gonna be able to get any images at all due to the fact that it was pooring rain. I was also worried for my cousin who felt lead by the Lord to organize this function to help raise money for the family, cause we all know how expensive being in the hospital can be! So when I arrived everything was soaked! Lots of people were wet and running around trying to get things covered up. You would of thought the devil had his way. But that rain brought people together and we still had a great time. There was great food, fun games and praise in song to God! I was still able to get some good shots and lots of money was raised to help a family in need. Here are a few images of that day!
When is it enough and when is it just going above and beyond? I don't ever feel you can have enough camera equipment! I am now wanting a speedlite or should I say NEED a speedlite.

This guy can be used in many shoots, but most important if your doing an indoor wedding where there is just not enough light or really deem. I would personally feel this would be a must have for the VERY neer future for me. Next on the list I would say a...
FishEye Lens

This one from Opteka is not very pricey and can be found on Amazon for under $50.00.

No a bad price at all and it adds some cool changes to your photos! Down side I don't think it would get used awhole lot maybe on a special occasion or just playing around!

The next item on the list for me would be labeled under just plain dreaming.

The AWESOME 100-400 Canon zoom Lens. This bad boy can run you over 1,600 bucks! But with a lot of carful looking you might be able to find it closer to 1,000 if you look really hard!

Do I need this to take great pictures?? NO! Do I want this to take pictures with?? YES!! Will I be getting this anytime soon? NOPE! Maybe if I sell one of my kids or a organ of some type :). But that's never gonna happen so lets move forward shall we? I was at one point wanting the lovely canon 50mm 1.4 but now that I have the 1.8 I really don't see any use in it. The 50mm 1.8 gives me what I am going for and it is very inexpensive compared to the 50mm 1.4 and 50mm 1.2.

I really think I made the better choice here for myself and my wallet. What are some of the things you need or want Camera wise?

Where to start?? I love EVERYTHING about my new camera. Being able to take awesome pictures of my loved ones is woth it's weight in gold! But I would have to say as far as "functions" go on a camera mine would hands down have to be the Back-Button Focusing or "Back- Button AF". This feature lets you customize the camera so that focusing is performed by pressing a rear button with your right thumb. See the image of the camera at the top? It is the little button with the * above it. The shutter button still wakes up the camera with a half-press, and fires the shutter with a full press downward. Talk about convenient. That's what I LOVE about taking pictures in AUTO! It is a very neat tool on my camera and it gets the job done quick with beautiful results. Being able to select the focus of what I am wanting to capture and it's as if the image comes alive off the picture. What a dramatic way to add drama to your images and letting the focus of the image be the most important thing in that picture. The rest of the image is blurred some and it adds a richness and depth as well. Also depending on which lens you use like a 50mm 1.8 you can achieve some awesome zoomed in focus with lots of lovely bokeh aswell, but that is for another subject.Mary Gibsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09204754512424018714noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4346618934026511540.post-73828797123206381392011-06-15T12:10:00.000-07:002011-06-16T21:39:35.097-07:00Garrett Family

It was an awesome challenge to take pictures of this busy, loving, and caring family. Little Raigan was as busy as a cat on a hot tin roof. Wanting to explore all around the park she had never been to before. So stoping long enough to take some pictures with mom and dad were hard to come by. But some of her images are simply breathtaking!
